What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is based on the principle that every reflex in the foot connects to a part of the body. Stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way.  By touching and treating the reflexes in the foot you are treating the whole body/person.

Our highly trained Reflexologists use a technique of applying gentle pressure to reflex areas on the hands and feet to bring about a state of deep relaxation and to stimulate the body’s own healing processes. It’s a natural therapy that can help boost the immune system and create a stronger body and calmer mind. It is widely acknowledged that 75% of all illness is linked to stress of some kind and this is what the reflexologist will seek to target. During a treatment, over 7000 nerves ending in the feet are worked to help create the necessary sense of balance and wellbeing. Reflexology works by treating the whole person as well as the symptoms presented.

There have been lots of research studies looking into reflexology and its effectiveness for treating a wide range of medical conditions. Generally speaking the results are very positive and show that reflexology can help on both the physical as well as the emotional level. Here are some of the benefits of reflexology:

What to expect during a treatment?

You will be treated by a therapist who is fully qualified by ITEC (globally recognised certification) in both reflexology and anatomy and physiology. At the start of the session a full consultation will be conducted in order for your therapist to build a picture of your current state of health and to devise a treatment plan tailored specifically to you. You will have the opportunity at any time during the treatment to ask questions. We may make soom lifestyle recommendations.

The treatment will begin with some gentle relaxation techniques followed by applying pressure to each of the reflex points. You may wish to close your eyes and relax or you might prefer to chat during your session, this is entirely up to you

The session continues using methods somewhat similar to acupressure, usually starting at the tips of the toes and down to the heels on top and bottom of the feet and to the knees. A person may feel minor sensations that usually indicate congestion or an imbalance in the corresponding organ the reflexologist will work on these areas to balance them. The session is very relaxing and soothing. In some cases Vertical Reflexology will be used during the treatment to both enhance the session and ensure reflexes are fully balanced.

A typical treatment will last 45-60 minutes and it is generally recommended that you have 4-6 weekly treatments initially, although reflexology is safe to have more frequently if required.  Your reflexologist will discuss with you how often you should be treated.

What is Vertical Reflexology?

Vertical Reflex Therapy (VRT) is also known as Vertical Reflexology. Unlike classical reflexology, VRT is briefly applied to the standing or weight-bearing upper part of the foot or hand reflexes at the beginning and end of a classical reflexology session for a maximum of 5 minutes. Vertical Reflexology can also be used as a stand-alone treatment lasting about 20 minutes.

VRT has been found to be particularly effective because the weight-bearing on the standing feet, or hands placed on a flat surface, appears to accelerate the energy to vulnerable parts of the body and enhances a classical reflexology session.

I have been seeing Verity for a few months and she has amazed me with her skill, knowledge, kindness and wonderful bedside manner. She has helped my son recover from his chest infection and freely given her advice to me on how to help him during his recovery. I also admire Verity for her honesty with her patients about how treatable their ailments may be through reflexology. She is not money-driven but compassion-driven. I wish Verity every success with her practice and look forward to my visits with her.
